Hello fabulous fiber friends!
In honor (and anticipation) of the Wabi Sabi Yarns official website shop nearing completion, we are having a HUGE blow-out-of-Big-Cartel SALE! Not that we do not love and appreciate big cartel, it’s just that the fruits of our labor have finally culminated in the launching of the official WSY shop. For this sale, all yarns and fibers will be marked down up to 25% off! This sale will be going on until the official site is up and running, which could be 2 days from now or 2 weeks from now, or may spontaneously cease at a moments notice, so if you see something you like, get in there and snatch it up before it is gone. Expect to see past colorways, permanent-collection colorways, and brand new colorways!

The sale, which was originally scheduled on March 2nd, is now being held here on Thursday, March 3rd, at 3:30pm MST. All U.S. items purchased from the last update will incur no additional shipping if items are purchased from the sale, and will be bundled together in one shipment. All international orders purchased from the last update will receive heavily discounted shipping if any additional items are purchased from the sale, and the lot will be bundled together. While the Big Cartel system will not allow me to selectively give free shipping to those who have purchased from the last update, your additional U.S. shipping fees from this sale will be refunded and your International shipping fees from this sale will be heavily discounted, pertaining to those affected. No coupons or other offers will be permitted during the sale.
See you then!!
Lisa
Sorry, folks. I’ve been busting my bum all day for this update and I am still running behind. Rather than have you waiting around at 9pm with me giving updates every 15 minutes that I am running late, I will be rescheduling the update for 10pm MST tonight. If all goes according to plan, I will be able to update at 10 on the nose. Crossing fingers. wabisabiyarns.bigcartel.com

We’ve been battling the elements here, as well as last months huge yarn re-wind, and are now almost ready to post the next update! This update will consist of SPINNING FIBER and yarn. The spinning fiber will be very limited, so if you see something you like snatch it up before it disappears.
The update will be on Sunday, February 13th at 9pm MST on this page. All yarn and fiber for sale will be *ready to ship* as soon as I return from my week-long jaunt to Georgia. Which means that shipping will occur on February 22 and 23, but ALL yarn and fiber will not be in need of rewinding and will be ready to go upon my return. Unfortunately, the U.S. Postal Service has raised shipping prices, so there will be a slight increase adjustment to domestic shipping. But International shipping may be less depending upon where you live due to our new shipping tier structure.
Hope to see you all Sunday! There will be a lovely selection of deep, rich, colors to choose from which I hope to have the time to preview on the blog shortly before the update.

January, that being. I delved into a new self-developed dyeing technique…totally freehand…and the Gousha came out *angry*! Little did I know of her twisted ways until I really examined the yarn upon package prep, only to discover how twisted she really was. It took days, weeks, the whole month, to unravel, wind into a ball, and then re-wind back into tidy skeins nearly *all* of that Gousha from the last update. But it was finally completed early this week or end of last week…time escapes me at this point after watching the winder go round and round for a full month straight. ;o) So, I lived and learned. Even *more* ties for the next dyeing session, and adjusting the technique.
I’ll be heading down to Georgia for a week come Feb 14th, but before I go I will be having a pre-Valentine’s day update. I will be in the dye pots from tomorrow until Monday, with a goal of listing all the product on Wednesday the 9th so that I can have it all shipped out to you before I leave town. And tomorrow’s dyeing session starts with SPINNING FIBER! Yaaaaaay! I can’t wait! It’s been so long and how much I have missed the fiber so. (Lot’s o’ yarn will also be in next week’s update, of course.)
In other fab news, I just found out that WSY will *definitely* be going to Sock Summit in July. Unfortunately, we have to miss Stitches West, and I am going to miss seeing everybody there as you are all such AMAZING people, but hopefully you can all make it up to Oregon in July. It will be my first time visiting that part of the country and it would be great to see some smiley familiar faces. I also look forward to meeting my local knitter friends residing in the area.
Hope you are all keeping warm and knitting up fabulousness!
Until next week…
Lisa
Hello friends!
I wanted to thank you all for such a successful update and for once again supporting Wabi Sabi Yarns.
The studio is 95% complete, in fact I will be hanging that fabulous Aubergine shelf today which will provide a permanent home for the powder dyes. And I have another pump coming for the sink to replace the one that was destroyed last week during transport. This is very exciting news as switching out 40 lb buckets full of water every 10 minutes was getting old, but a great workout all the same. ;o) There are still a few production kinks to work out, but in the end all the changes will allow WSY to update more frequently. More springy Gousha is on order with my custom spinner, new delicious yarn bases are in the works, and I will be dyeing up spinning fiber, lace, Koala, and Tallulah over the next two weeks for the next update.
Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, prosperous, peaceful, joy-filled New Year!
Warmly,
Lisa
yarns from 12/30/10 update
I’m working quickly on the photo editing and am really, REALLY happy about how these yarns came out. I decided to use an entirely different technique, free-hand style of course, and love the depth of color to these yarns.
I had better get back to work so I can have these available by 9pm MST for you, but here is a mini sneak-peek. First are some shades of Gousha. Second pic are some variations on patina colorings that I have been inspired by as of late.

update will be held at wabisabiyarns.bigcartel.com @ 9pm MST tonight, Dec 30, 2010.
Hello knitters and spinners,
I hope you have been enjoying a happy and healthy holiday season!
Wabi Sabi Yarns will be holding a small update tomorrow night, December 30th, at approximately 8pm MST. Look for Gousha, Tallulah, Koala, and possibly some Lush Lace, in many new luscious one-of-a-kind colorways. The spinning fiber will be available in January rather than this month, but I am aiming for early January as the studio renovations are nearly complete.
For all those with the 15% off Facebook coupons, the expiration date has been extended until February 28, 2011.
Hope to see you tomorrow at the update which will be held at wabisabiyarns.bigcartel.com.
Cheers!
Lisa
And spray paint. Even though a limited number of people may be seeing my studio, I thought I may as well make it “me” which includes painting the ugly white shelves Aubergine! Like that’s a big surprise for anyone who knows me or my color palette.
While it seems like I’ve been spending the good part of my life at the hardware store these days, there is good news on the horizon. My sink HAS SHIPPED today and is en route. That is HUGE! But I just don’t think I can wait for it to arrive before I dye again. I’ve got a dyer’s itch that I just have to scratch. So tomorrow I’ll be doing it old school, whatever that means. Using plastic tubs to fill with water for dye mixing, plastic sheeting just about everything, and winging it. And I am hoping that this will enable me to list at least *something* by Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday. Soon, soon, soon, very soon. And if I can make it happen, I will be getting some spinning fiber into those pots for ye faithful spinners. I hope you all are as excited as I am. It’s been a loooong time comin’.

aaaaaaahhhh, my preciousssssss. sweet Aubergine spray paint…

Hi All!
As I’m sure you are aware, this whole remodeling thing has been sloooooooooooow going. But I do have some progress pics for you. This is the area where the dye prep will be. It will be where I mix my formulas, calculate percentages, and get the individual dyes ready to hit the pots. It will also be where I rinse the dye from the yarn. All this, of course, is pending the arrival of the sink which hopefully will be within 2 weeks time. So here is a peek at what’s been a-happenin’.

o.k. so maybe those “yellow” colors are not that impressive on the blue wall, but my dear friend and professional and exceptional interior designer, recommended this color for my space (it also matches the rug and fireplace out of frame) and by complete coincidence, happens to be called “Alpaca”.
This is what the color really looks like:
It’s a nice earthy warm fawn color which will go great with the sage greens I have in my decor outside the studio area.
Now let’s talk SOCK SUMMIT! Wabi Sabi Yarns has been invited to participate in Sock Summit and I for one cannot wait! It will be my first trip to Oregon which I seem to have been waiting for all my life. It may turn into a road trip with a helper accompanying me from home, but I would definitely be interested in hearing from anyone wishing to help at the WSY booth at SS. It’s going to be a blast!
And lastly, regarding the 15% coupons set to expire on December 31, 2010. The expiration dates will be extended due to the slow renovations resulting in the dyeing being held up. I still do have my eyes set on some fiber, but need to get that sink here and installed, and a couple of other things before the green light turns to sparkling emerald.
Wishing you all warmth, happy holidays, and hoping to give you an update treat very soon.
Warmly, Lisa
The good…Wabi Sabi Yarns is actively working on yummy new yarn bases that we are over the moon about and will actively be collaborating with some of our (and your) favorite pattern designers to bring you the most decadent delights in patternage. I am absolutely chomping at the bit over these new custom blends and cannot wait to serve them up on a platter with a side of hot Addis.

The bad…Wabi Sabi Yarns will not be participating in Stitches West this year. It is terribly disappointing, but is unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control. We will miss seeing all of you Stitches West attendees, but look forward to seeing you at Sock Summit and other Yarnie/Fibery events throughout the year!

(until next year, mon ami)
The fugly…the home studio. It’s pretty fugly right now but is soon to be Cinderella-ed into a beauty, taking it’s rightful place amongst the “good” things and saying goodbye to “fugly” forever. I was hoping to have an update for you this weekend before I get kicked out of the home/studio for 2-days of floor installation, but I am now doubtful the update will occur pre floor installation. Between taking several days winterizing the location in order to brace for our first real snow, which occurred yesterday (yay!), and boxing up the dyes, yarn, studio equipment, and household items for the floor installation, the dyeing has had to take a back seat. But once the flooring is installed, the studio moved to it’s new location, and the burners fired up, dyeing will resume in all its glory! I am so excited and inspired to begin dyeing in the new setup!
