Wabi Sabi Yarns is a small designer-owned and operated company founded in November 2009 by the creator of Poppy Flower Fibers, a company dedicated to creating bright and bold, unique spinning fibers since 2006.
In the summer of 2009, holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts and having received a full artistic scholarship to a renowned Master of Fine Arts program, the designer was moved to create Wabi Sabi Yarns, a line reflecting her appreciation for the subtle natural beauty surrounding her in breathtaking Boulder, Colorado. Having been influenced by wabi sabi tradition since her undergrad work in clay, the designer noticed a natural connection between the organic nature of the dyeing process and the resulting yarn that would ultimately take a journey though time. The yarn, then used by the knitter, creates a piece that ultimately becomes that much more treasured as it ages. Our dream is that each piece carries a story during its lifetime…maybe it will become a world traveller far and wide, maybe it will stay as close as a trusted best friend, maybe it is to be gifted to someone very special in your life, maybe it is to be gifted to you, maybe it will have holes and rips and tears that you could never dream of living without, maybe it will be as pristine as the day it was knit. We believe that the story resulting from the natural effects of time is what makes your unique piece that much more cherished, like the reverence one might have for a wise old tree. The goal of Wabi Sabi Yarns is to create thoughtful yarns to match the intention of your knit pieces in their journey through the ages, gaining even more beauty and grace as the seasons pass.
